Henryk Banaszak

Henryk Jan Banaszak, PhD.

Dr Banaszak received his PhD from Warsaw University, Sociology Institute, in 1983, where he began his academic career and where he still works in the Statistics, Demography and Mathematical Sociology Department. From 1984 until1987 he served as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Sociology and was responsible for the teaching programme. In 1996 he joined the Centre for Social Studies (CSS) as an Assistant Professor. Dr Banaszak teaches social statistics, advanced data analysis and survey methods. He also manages the CSS local computer network and a database of international survey research data.

His scientific interests include probabilistic models of social networks, measurement and scaling theory and empirical attitude studies. From 1978 until 1991 he conducted a series of surveys on changes in political attitudes before and after system transformation. The results were published in two volumes "W przededniu wielkiej zmiany" [The Day Before the Great Change] (1991) and "Pamięć, wiedza, wyobraźnia" [Memory, Knowledge, Imagination] (2002).

From the beginning of his academic career Dr Banaszak has been professionally active in the area of market and public opinion research. From 1992 until1994 he worked as a consultant and then as the Director of Research at the DEMOSKOP company (at present - the Polish IPSOS subsidiary). From 1995 he has been an independent statistical consultant for commercial institutions (GfK, Gallup, TNS OBOP, CBOS, and IQS Quant) as well as for academic research institutions (Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw University, and Warsaw Agricultural University). He specializes in survey sampling.

1984 - Statistical consultant of market and public opinion research companies, academic institutions; consultancy in survey sampling, statistical analysis, survey research methodology.

1992-1994 - Director of Research, DEMOSKOP, Institute for Market and Public Opinion Research.

1995-1997 - Statistical consultant of GfK POLONIA, Institute for Market and Public Opinion Research.
