After a record number of applications to the PhD programme were received in 2010 it has been decided to ease the work of the selection committee by holding two separate recruitment exercises in 2011. Candidates from any country may submit their applications either by April 4th, 2011 (to be interviewed in May), or by June 20th, 2001 (to be interviewed in July). Candidates whose applications are unsuccessful in April will not be permitted to make a second application in June.
Candidates who plan to seek financial support in addition to that offered by the GSSR are advised to apply by the April deadline. Letters of acceptance should then be available in time for inclusion in their grant applications.

First recruitment -- Monday, April 4th, 2011, 17:00

The Graduate School for Social Research has a pleasure to invite all the people interested in the topic of Drug Policy to Spring Semester Open Seminars on Drug Policy. The Graduate School for Social Research at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology opens a course titled 'Analysing Social Data Using the Package R'. The course is to take place from the 8th to 10th of December in the Staszic Palace. Details concerning the course are to be found on its website. While the essence of GSSR experience is pursuit of interdisciplinary doctoral studies in which students make their own choice of courses from more than 50 courses offered, students who wish to gain particular expertise in Cross-National Interdisciplinary Studies may now follow a marked "route" indicating a series of courses on successful completion of which they will gain an additional certificate indicating that specific expertise has been gained in the above named area. It is our pleasure to announce, that the Graduate School for Social Research (GSSR) of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology (IFiS) is the first institution of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) to receive an Erasmus charter for 2007-2013.
New validation agreement
Representatives of Lancaster University have completed the quinquennial review visit. A new agreement for the next 5 years is being prepared for signature. Discussions are under way to add Lancaster validation of the GSSR PhD programme to current MA validation arrangements, thereby allowing students to choose whether they wish to work for the award of a British or a Polish (IFiS PAN) doctoral diploma.
Doctoral stipends awarded
