Financial Aid Policy

GSSR offers financial aid to non-Polish PhD students.

The financial aid can be offered in the following forms under the conditions described below:

  • full tuition fee waivers - for full-time students from Poland, other EU countries and from Central-Eastern European countries, post-soviet countries and Mongolia (the list of all those countries)
  • doctoral stipends - available on the basis of academic merit for all non-Polish students admitted from Central-Eastern European countries (the list of all those countries), post-soviet countries and Mongolia, as well as for the best students from other countries

For first year stipends are granted on the basis of the ranking made by the admissions committee during the application process. Progression to subsequent years is conditional on documented progress of work on the doctoral thesis and subject to satisfactory coursework during the year. Scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of work produced according to the eligibility criteria below. They are awarded on an annual basis for the period of one academic year.

Students in full-time employment are not eligible for scholarships.

Students following the programme on a full time basis may take up part-time work provided they have the agreement (in writing) of the Director of the School.

Stipends are not payable to students while on holiday or for any reason spending a period of time outside Poland. Students who interrupt their studies in these ways receive a stipend pro rata for the time they are attending the School.

Financial aid available for Polish students:

  1. The full tuition fee waiver - Polish full-time students are not charged tuition fees for their studies in the doctoral programme of GSSR

Forms of Financial Aid for Non-Polish Students from Central-Eastern European countries, post-soviet countries and Mongolia (the detailed list of those countries)

Two kinds of financial aid are available from GSSR for Non-Polish Students from Central-Eastern European countries, post-soviet countries and Mongolia:

  1. The full tuition fee waiver - for full-time students from those countries studies in the doctoral programme of GSSR are free of charge (with no Registration Fee)

  2. Doctoral stipends - students admitted from Central-Eastern European countries, post-soviet countries and Mongolia are granted doctoral stipends of 4950 USD per year. The first payments of stipends (worth a total of 4950 USD per year) are made at the end of September of each academic year and followed by 9 monthly instalments.

The number and value of the above awards is decided each year by a committee of the Higher Education Support Programme.

Policy on Holds

If a student does not attend classes or fails to complete requirements on time the Director may withhold or discontinue stipend payments.

Stipends are awarded for one academic year at a time. If a student leaves the school (or is asked to leave) doctoral stipend payments cease on the first day of the month after that in which a final formal decision concerning the student's status is made

Any student receiving a stipend who for any reason is asked to leave the School may also be asked to repay the amount of stipend already received.
